Heritage Buses (Saturday and Sunday)

This year we have two Heritage Buses operating the Festival Bus service during the days. We welcome back the ex London Transport Routemaster and are delighted to see an AEC Regent III too!
The Routemaster was built in 1964, it started life in Barking (East London) and ended at Putney after 23 years of service. It spent a while with St John Ambulance, being fitted out with beds and special equipment. It then returned to passenger service in Reading. It is now privately owned by Past Time Bus in Reading. The Routemaster class of bus was built by London Transport to suit operations in London. It was the last bus built to an operator's specification rather than the current practice of a manufacturer's specification. It was the first bus with power steering, automatic gears and fresh air heating - a feature unheard of in most cars of the day. The fact that more than 600 still run in London, albeit refurbished, goes to show how well they were built. The Routemaster will be in Wallingford 15.00-18.00 Saturday and 10.00-18.00 Sunday.
The AEC Regent III MRD146 is owned by Tim Wale of Bradfield. It was built in 1956 at Park Royal and first entered service in 1957 with Reading Corporation Transport as No 3 and stayed with that company for 30 years. It was then purchased by Reading Heritage Travel. Tim Wale acquired the vehicle in 2003 and we now see it in its restored condition, operating the Festival Bus service round Wallingford on Saturday 09.00-15.00.
Working Vehicles (Kinecroft Saturday and Sunday)
A great gathering of 4 to the Foot Steam Traction Engines showing their capabilities on the field and in the road run. Displays of milling and sawing too. Presented by Arthur Honey of Cholsey (and friends).
Horace Baker and friends will be showing off their wonderful old tractors, pre-war to classic.
From Grundons, one of our Sponsors, we welcome a 1920s Albion dustcart looking resplendent. You may have seen it at the Carnival.
Bill Lawrence from Abingdon will be bringing his magnificent ex RAF 1973 Bedford TK Fire engine, accompanied by a 1953 Dennis F12 Pump Escape vehicle.
Don’t forget to look at the wonderful 1940s Showman’s live-in vans and other artifacts over by the vintage children’s rides, displayed by Roger Sibley.
