Rapper Dancng with Silver Flame Rapper

Although this workshop will be suitable for all abilities and no previous experience is necessary, this is not suitable for the very young.
Swords will be provided so you don’t need to bring anything but yourself, although a pair of hard soled shoes would be better than trainers.
Rapper Sword dancing originated in the Northumberland and County Durham areas of England and was performed by miners in the pit villages. It is a fairly new tradition, that has developed over the last two hundred years from the older hilt and point sword dance tradition found all over Europe. It is becoming popular amongst younger dances with many new and exciting figures and moves being developed.

Saturday DW4 15.30-16.30
Longsword Dancing with Frome Valley Morris
FVM plan to briefly explore this relatively little known dance style in a workshop for people of all ages and standards, beginners or experts, starting from the very basics. Swords provided! The six in a set hold their swords in a ring and perform various manouevres without letting go.... A small number of selected figures will be taught including at least one lock - this is the famous EFDSS logo of intertwined swords. By the end participants will have gained a feeling for what Longsword dancing is and an idea of how to continue. Longsword dancing is not too energetic but it has a charm and life of its own.
