The band got together on a drunken evening in the early 1990s, watching the last embers of a fire fade into the night while debating whether or not to just lie there until the sun came up or stagger in the general direction of the tent. Matthew's Tree still hold true to their traditions - they still consume vast quantities of alcohol but some of them being older and wiser can now be found asleep on the carpet in front of a warm fire in a pub.
Years ago someone asked: "Do you boys play folk-rock?" Tim thought about the question for a second or two and replied: "Actually it's more accurate to call it rocket folk." So that's what they sound like - traditional folk music with a rocket up its xxxx. Matthew's Tree songs cover love, famine, leaving home, alcohol, fighting, sailors and the sea – pretty standard folk themes really.
