Boy le Monti are a 5 piece band from North Dorset, England, with a distinctive take on early 1960’s Jamaican Ska & Rocksteady.
With their infectious, brass drenched sound suffused with sweet vocal harmonies, the irresistable grooves not only lift the spirits but also your dancing feet. Playing venues as diverse as Gaz Mayalls St Moritz club Soho, The Hootenanny Brixton, pubs, clubs & parties through to the odd farm, stately home & castle, Boy le Monti have also played many festivals including Larmer Tree, Glastonbury, Party in the Park, The Bristol Festival, Vale Earth Fair, The Festival of Bryan & Earthwise.
Along the way the band have supported The Beat, Skaville UK & The Destroyers. Their well received debut album was released in 2007.
Formed in 2005 the line up of the band is underpinned by the deeply grooving rhythm machine of Janny Jammet on bass & Lisa Foo on drums (the band’s Sly & Robbie!). Their sumptious vocal harmonies, honed over the previous decade as the songwriting duo Foo Foo, weave through the band’s eclectic mix of songs.
Joining them in groove heaven on ska hopping Guitar is the laid back & legendary King Tut of Tut Hill, who in a previous life plied his wares in a London based punk/funk band.
Upfront the ‘Horns of Paradise’ lay down the tunes, with the Masterblaster Kent*sta on Trumpet,Flugelhorn,Keyboards & vocals, no stranger to the world of Ska, having previously been a member of RatRace.
On Baritone & Alto Saxophones, Clarinet & vocals, Barry Tone formerly of 200 fingers (an anarchic 20 piece Jazz Rock Big Band) & sometime member of the Ben Waters band.
The band's deep love, appreciation and sheer enjoyment of Ska & Rocksteady music shines through in their performances. The broad appeal of their music has a knack of filling dancefloors, on any occasion where the diamond sound of Boy le Monti will be appreciated. (Saturday evening Kinecroft Big Stage) |
