In his own words:
Over 25 years experience of playing and teaching acoustic guitar techniques. I teach privately and have run guitar courses at Trowbridge and Chippenham colleges, as well as regularly running guitar workshops at Chippenham Folk Festival. I am a qualified lecturer and I have attended week-end guitar workshops run by Stefan Grossman, Martin Simpson, Eric Roche and Tommy Emmanuel.
I have also performed as a solo guitarist at folk clubs in the Wiltshire area.
I specialise in the playing of traditional English/Irish music and contemporary acoustic guitar solos, specialising in open and altered tunings. Main influences on my playing are Martin Simpson and William Ackerman.
The guitar workshop, intended to be an intermediate/advanced workshop, will look initially at fingerstyle techniques for song accompaniment and guitar solos. We will then go on to discuss an introduction to open tunings (dropped D, open G, open D) and altered tunings (eg CGCFCD. CGCGCD, CGDGCD). The workshop will look at pieces of music from Martin Simpson, William Ackerman and others and allow the participants to exchanges ideas/tunes or perform pieces if they wish.
The music theory workshop will give a basic background in chords, harmony and notation.
(Saturday music theory workshop, Sunday intermediate / advanced guitar workshop)
